*General Disclaimer* – Political Parties (at least in the US) do not rape people. (At least I think so. Who knows, politics are all types of fucked up lately).
Oh boy is do we have a story today folks. This story goes back to the 2016-17 school year. Teaching seniors always has its own set of challenges. But this one takes the cake.
The lesson I was teaching in this story was all about American Political Parties and what they’re about and what they believe. I know, I’m sure you find that as riveting as the students do.
As I teach, I often try to give the ole razzle dazzle to the lesson to keep everyone interested. This lesson included a story about how I once bought a t-shirt from a political party because I thought it looked cool. After buying it, I was habitually harasses with emails and flyers sent to my house asking for more money. Just when I thought I couldn’t be bothered any more, the phone calls kicked in. Needless to say, I no longer belong to that party.
Any hoo….
When teaching this lesson I mentioned that once you donate to a political party or campaign, you will probably be harassed much like I was. A couple minutes later this stu…..oh hell, let’s call him a “happy little classroom challenge”. This kid had plenty of strikes against him in pretty much every department you can think of. But the worst part was that he had the likability factor of taking a toothpick underneath a toenail. So this kid raises his hand and belts out “Mister? What did you say about political parties raping…?” I literally could have not cut this happy little classroom challenge off quicker. “Whoa whoa whoa, I did not use the word rape.” I mean the nerve of this gem of a person to put words in my mouth. I think it’s clear that anyone that confuses the words “harass” and “rape” needs to have multiple sets of eyes to watch their moves. Rape is not something ANYONE should take lightly. So anyone can understand my immediate shut down of whatever else this kid was going to come out with. I mean the amount carefree whimsy that this kid threw around the term rape should have him put on a watchlist of some type. I’m not saying that we should go straight for a no-fly list, but let’s take some extra measures every time he wants to change subways or even state lines.
I think I am justified in saying that from that point on, I always made sure that any time this kid participated in my class for the rest of his time in high school was under a microscope to make sure he wasn’t twisting my words as if he was closing a loaf of bread.
P.S. This won’t be the last you hear about this HOF classroom challenge.
